How Leaders Worry Less

Table of Contents

“Trust, but verify.” – Ronald Regan.

Worry is a warning light.

I’m not worry-shaming. Worry visits us all. Some more severely than others.

But I can simplify the concept of worry in your mind, and, hopefully, move you in the direction of peace.

Business Worry

For most people in positions of authority, worry increases as responsibility grows. But it doesn’t have to.

If you’re worried in regards to business issues, here’s why:

  • You have someone you don’t trust or haven’t trained.
  • You have something you haven’t done.
  • You don’t know what you have.

Weekly meetings with scorecards and priorities helps us worry less about the things we know. If we know, we make a plan to correct. If we don’t know, we don’t know. And we will worry.

If the numbers aren’t hitting, you may have a system to fix. Or you might have a person who is not right for the work. Sort it out with love. But sort it out.

Don’t worry. Trust the right people. Verify with regular check-ins.

Personal Worry

When it comes to the bigger picture of our lives…

I find I’m better off trusting Life/God with what I can’t control. I struggle enough with the things I can control.

We already said that worry is a warning light:

Warning.

Something is off.

Pay attention.

Get back to peace.

Worry is an indicator that one or more of the following are true:

  • You’re not prepared.
  • You don’t have confidence in a better future.
  • You struggle to trust Life/God.

If you can be more prepared, prepare. If you’ve done what you can do, trust.

What good is suffering now over what may or may not cause suffering later? Why suffer twice?

Trust there’s a good plan. Even seemingly “bad” things are turned around for good all the time and everyday.

Conclusion

Worry visits us all. Some more severely than others. Here’s a starting place, at least to simplify the subject in your mind, and hopefully, to move you in the direction of peace:

Prepare or make a plan.

Trust the people you put in place.

Make corrections to the plan or people when necessary.

Trust Life/God for what you can’t control.

And may you enjoy increasing peace and prosperity.
